Joi AI Review: Chat, Voice, Neurons and Privacy

Joi opens with an 18+ confirmation explaining that mature content can be hidden again in settings. Behind it, the public gallery offers creator, age and gender filters plus categories for anime, fantasy, relationship dynamics and other adult interests.

Public character cards include a name, adult age, description, creator label and engagement counters. As with any creator marketplace, these are discovery signals rather than proof of conversation quality. Read the full premise and keep every interaction between clearly fictional adults.

The visible age filter is useful, but you should still reject ambiguous profiles and report anything that violates the platform’s adult-only rules.

Joi’s terms define a virtual friend as an AI-powered companion and describe text, voice and a video-call feature where available. That is a more relationship-oriented package than a standalone image generator.

Availability is not the same as quality. We have not measured response latency, voice expression, call stability or whether the character keeps a consistent persona across formats. “Where available” also means a feature may depend on character, plan, device or region.

Test text first. If the character does not respect a basic premise or your conversational boundaries, voice and video will not fix that foundation. Upgrade only after the core chat earns continued use.

Create AI and the AI Tools navigation expose character creation, image generation and video generation. The homepage also promotes free image creation. These tools can help a companion feel visually coherent when they use the same profile.

We did not verify how many images are free, whether every character supports video or how consistently a face survives new scenes. Use one neutral prompt across several generations before assuming the promotional gallery represents your own output.

Keep custom characters fictional and adult. The terms prohibit illegal and exploitative content, including sexualized material involving anyone under eighteen or appearing under eighteen.

Joi’s privacy policy says the service may process facts about you and your life to personalize conversation. That supports a personalized companion experience, but it does not publish a clear public context-window or guaranteed retention period on the pages we inspected.

A safe memory trial should use harmless invented details. Mention a favorite fictional book and a preferred nickname, return later, and see whether the companion recalls them without inventing additional personal facts. Delete the test data afterward if the account controls allow it.

We did not run that test. The review therefore does not claim deep memory, emotional growth or superiority over SpicyChat’s documented context tools.

The help center documents Neurons as an internal balance and provides routes for earning free Neurons. It also answers a common annual-plan question: subscription benefits and quotas still reset monthly rather than arriving as one yearly allowance.

Current plan prices and a complete Neuron tariff were not visible in the public pages we could inspect. Before paying, separate the subscription fee from usage-based features. Check what consumes Neurons, how many are included each month, whether unused balances roll over and what happens when a generation fails.

Annual billing can reduce the apparent monthly equivalent while increasing the amount at risk before you know your usage. Start monthly if the free experience cannot establish whether you will return.

Joi’s Privacy Policy says it does not rent or sell personal information and does not share virtual-friend conversations with other companies except affiliates, legal representatives or service providers. It also explains that providers may host or analyze data to deliver the service.

The policy lists profile details, email, age and facts shared in chat among the data it may collect. That means personalization requires processing. Do not interpret “not sold” as “never accessed by infrastructure or service providers.”

Use a separate email, avoid real addresses and financial details, and review deletion and retention controls. Adult roleplay is not a reason to turn a cloud account into a private diary.

The help center includes articles on age verification, safety warnings, payment problems, refunds and card removal. The terms state that all services and content are strictly for adults 18+ and maintain zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material.

Safety warnings can appear even on an adult service because “adult” is not equivalent to unrestricted. Keep characters and scenarios clearly within the published rules, and use the complaint or support channel for harmful content.

Before subscribing, confirm the refund conditions and card-removal process for your payment method. We did not test cancellation or a refund request.

SpicyChat is easier to budget when context length is the deciding factor because it publishes 4K, 8K and 16K limits with current prices. GirlfriendGPT offers another large creator marketplace with image and voice tools. Lovescape is worth comparing when relationship controls and private character settings matter more than public discovery.

Joi is appealing if you want chat and media under one identity and may use voice or video calls. Its weaker point is cost transparency before account-level access.
